There are several writers who have had a disproportionate impact on my thinking, and whose works I’d recommend for further reading. Topping the list are Nonzero by Robert Wright, Inadequate Equilibria by Eliezer Yudkowsky, all of Jaron Lanier’s books, Shoshana Zuboff, Meditations on Moloch, Cory Doctorow of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Melanie Mitchell at the Santa Fe Institute, Ramez Naam, The Beam, Kurt Andersen, Anne Appelbaum and Peter Pomerantsev, Tim Urban, Jonathan Haidt and Tobias Rose-Stockwell, Rutger Bregman, Dark Money by Jane Mayer, Civic Ventures, The Tangled Web We Weave by James Ball (especially Chapter 5, his interview with Brian O’Kelley), AI Superpowers by Kai-Fu Lee, Kara Swisher, and The Curse of Bigness by Tim Wu. On Netflix, I’d recommend The Social Dilemma, Saving Capitalism, and Dirty Money.
